XX at the Glynhill Ladies International
Glasgow XX has been a supporter of the Adopt- A - Team bit of fun which runs with the Glynhill Ladies International Curling Championship at Braehead each January. Basically, for a nominal contribution of £20, the Club's name goes into a draw to 'adopt' and 'support' one of the ladies' teams that have entered the competition.
For the 2016 event the Club were drawn with Hannah Fleming's Scottish rink, so there were no language difficulties in communicating. (Hannah's from Lockerbie.) A welcome pack gift was deemed a bit unnecessary so the solution lay in a voucher for their choice of do'nuts from the recently opened Krispy Kreme establishment next door to the curling rink.
The Club also generously offered to meet the cost of the girls attending the Championship Dinner on the Saturday night at the Glynhill Hotel. ( As is often the case, the Scots teams tend to stay in their own accommodation rather than at the hotel for the duration of the tournament, and thus miss out on the Dinner.) As it happened the freak weather conditions and snowstorm on the Saturday prohibited the girls from taking up the Club's offer, although the gesture was much appreciated.
L to r: President Ian Dalglish, Tom Cuthbertson, Leslie Quin, Andy Whyte, Ian Taylor, Brian Evans, Stuart Orr, Chairman of the Glynhill International Alan Sloan.
The ladies in case you don't recognise them are Hannah Fleming, Lorna Vevers, Alice Spence and Abi Brown.
